Here is a 1909 Matte Proof Lincoln Cent. The grade is Matte Proof-66, R&B.

I would love to the 1909-VDB in Matte Proof, but the coin is scarce plus one collector hoarded a large percentage of the population which drove prices through the roof. Recently I saw where one sold for a bit over $30,000, which seemed "cheap" compared to what they had been.

Found this hoard of (23) Red BU and (3) Proof Wheaties in Littleton pouches in my desk drawer. A very nice lot I’d forgotten about.

(No, I did not buy them at Littleton prices. They were part of a bigger wholesale bulk lot I bought a few years back.)

They’re going into my giveaway inventory as one lot.

    Cool idea.

As soon as I have a relevant coin to post in the coming days, I will join in.

Hello, everyone, and welcome to Tuesday the 27th.

It is now time for our next type, which is the Lincoln Cent Steel (1943).

Here is an MS66 from my giveaway inventory.

I have owned a couple of MS67 coins in the past, but never an MS68, because I never thought the exponential leap in price between 67 and 68 was worth it. (Even if I'd had the money for an MS68, I wouldn't have gone there.)

I agree. Best buy for the buck. MS67 doesn't look that much different. And MS68? Like I said earlier, fuhgeddaboutit!

Here is my 1943 steel cent for type. It is a PCGS MS-66. I bought it over 25 years ago for $25 from one of my wholesale sources. I thought it was too much money then, but one does have to pay for the grading.

My Dad (now 97 years old) told me a story of how, as a teenager, he and his buddies used to throw the trashy steel pennies off the bridge. :)

My grandmother had a jar of them so I used some as refrigerator magnets.

When I was young, the government dumped them into the ocean. I don’t think that there was an environmental impact study before that was done.

Hello, everyone, and welcome to Wednesday, January 28th. It is now time for our final cent type in the Virtual 7070 album.

I am speaking of course of the Lincoln Head Cent Memorial (1959-2008).

The Dansco 7070 album and the associated PCGS Registry set that was linked to in the OP do not recognize the Lincoln Bicentennial cents of 2009 nor the Union Shield reverse "Shield cents" from 2010-2025. The Registry set lineup we're working from here dates the Lincoln Memorial cents from "1959-present" [sic]. So I suppose for today's postings, you may post any 1959 or later Lincoln cent, regardless of subtype.

I personally have little interest in US coins after 1964. With the exception of the occasional flashy proof, I prefer coins that are older than I am, and I was born the year clad coinage made its debut (1965).

I never thought I would be interested in adding a Lincoln Memorial cent to my collection, but I made an exception for this one from my birthyear. It is incredibly toned, and "pops" like this just as much in hand as it does in the photographs.
