Most of the members here on Coin Talk know me as proponent of moderns and the collecting thereof......more specifically collecting such from the US Mint. I've bought mint products from them directly ever since I was a wee lad of 10. As a boy collecting mint and proof sets, the prices there were affordable and I could always rely on the fact that I'd receive a quality product. As all of you know, the mint has made some price adjustments to their product offerings due to the sheer and utter instabilities related to the price of silver. I can understand that, but the premiums associated with the cost of production exceed my ability to justify my continuation of purchase of such. One of the most egregious price hikes is the mint set, which doesn't contain any silver at all. With a face value of $ 5.82 (and purchased for $33.25 in July 2025) they now project a cost of $124.50. How can they justify such an increase in price? Where's the gun? Did the spot price for pot metal increase too? I'm done......subscriptions cancelled. No more buying from crooks. After market from now on.........

Yes, I saw the $124.50 at the website for mint sets. Yowzers!
And $245 for the silver set.

I won't be buying at THOSE prices.

Jacking up the silver product line prices I can sort of see.. the non-PM stuff? Pure greed.

I would assume many people will not buy. If that is the case, do you think the mint will rethink their pricing?

The U.S Mint is 30 years over due for a public smack down. Maybe this will do it.

They also priced the 2021 Silver Proof Set at $245 despite it having 2 quarters instead of 5.

I haven't bought anything from the mint in years for many reasons. The prices are part of it.

I haven’t bought anything from the Mint in years. I’m guessing the Mint is using a profit-maximizing strategy. Doesn’t matter if sales go down. Selling fewer, much more expensive sets may increase profits. They may be testing the waters with such a great increase. If sales decrease so much that profits go down, they can offer mint sets next year at a lower price. One risk is that even if prices go down next year, fewer people will consider looking at the offerings. Mike

For $124 one could get a halfway decent (or really nice common) ancient/medieval coin. I haven't looked at pricing lately, but presumably a Morgan, as well.

Perhaps it's time to wrap up one collection and either call it good or switch to another genre.

I can just imagine what those 250th anniversary coin and medal sets are going to cost.
