I've noticed that many of Denver Coins offerings are raw. They have a good reputation, but I have not nor will not bid on a coin that is not in a holder, unless it is low value.

I wouldn't touch that. leave it where it is. The company I believe is known for juicing the photos. Hence the statement in the description. They are about 20minutes away from ANACS and could easily do a walk in for a key date coin. They obviously know there is a problem with the coin. Not saying it isn't real.... Well you get the jest of it.

Denver Coin Co. sells a lot of details coins. I think they don't have them graded because they can take advantage of people who don't know how to grade and/or are looking for "deals".

The dime you linked to looks off to me. Like chemically altered or something.

    This Quarter has been cleaned.

These light washed out fields can hide many a flaw. The reverse has three very bad scratches. 3.png 4.png

These Washington Quarters they have for sale seem ok, but the images make them look like MS-67 or 68. 5.png 6.jpg 7.jpg

Yup, PCGS or NGC graded coins if I want to purchase something expensive. I purchased that 1926s Merc ungraded, "Pretty" coin it is, sent it to PCGS and it was returned in a holder ok, 91. "Questionable Coloring" .
Learned my lesson, but it is a nice coin, not counterF anyway. So lesson learned.
    Ungraded + Expensive = NO

There are decent coins out there that are not holdered. I own some myself. But these folks have been juicing photos and passing off polished coins for a long time. I recently became a victim of an outfit that juiced photos. If it looks too good to be true then it probably is.

I've occasionally considered raw coins offered by this seller, only to discover that they'd been offered in details holders by other sellers before being liberated . . . whether by this seller or by others I cannot say.

I've never seen this seller before, but immediately I could tell something is off with the surfaces on this coin. Definitely been cleaned.

They'd probably rather sell a raw coin to someone who doesn't know the difference (at a high price!) than be forced to sell a coin in a details holder (for much less money!)

If that were a problem free XF coin, you're looking at $7500. You have to be absolutely crazy to buy anything at that price raw, not to mention a coin that is widely known to be commonly altered/counterfeited! Crazy!

Well let's see how crazy it gets, the auction ends in a few days.
Thanks for all the good advice, keep it coming to help all here.

I'd guess it has problems. Questionable color: cleaned but they weren't able to remove the black patch. Early Merc's may have those types of surfaces but I'm not sure. Maybe the whole thing was acid dipped giving it that rough surface?

I went to FUN and tried to pick out some ms-64 or 65 common date walking lib halves. Went thru a bunch of them that were cheaper but upon close inspection, the raw ones had severe issues. Gem surfaces but corrosion spots and other such.

Thats a strange one, iam really no expert on dimes but based on the price, this is for sure something that should be put in a holder.

The surface sure does look "odd", why would anyone take a 16d and mess with it.?

To make it appear to look better to get more money.

Or, to remove surface problems (to make it look better to get more money, lol).

Not from what I've read Googling that company in the past, ie, Reddit, and other coin forums. I remember them getting blasted online. I've never bought from them, and probably won't unless it's graded.

There is a post somewhere here on CoinTalk of them doing exactly that. I wish I could remember the title... In any case, a member showed pictures of a few coins sold on one auction site in graded holders (details), and then the same coin freed from its plastic and sold as high-grade specimens by this same seller.

Have you ever interacted with Great Southern Coins? They're giving off really similar vibes to GSC.

My recollection from reading post is that Canyon city coins is also in that category.
Edit to add this is the same Company as Canyon city coins. The link on google sends you to Denver coins site.
