Howdy EC - Welcome to the Forum !!

    Assuming it's authentic - I'd say about $600.

I agree with GDJMSP. I unfortunately do not think PCGS will grade it as I believe it was polished.

only $600? Hm... I think it has to be worth more than that. It's not polished - it is just that I took the photo through plastic so it gave off a shine. PCGS is sending it back to me on the 12th - Ill post its grade then.

It's just reflection IMO. Looks like it has nice luster. Maybe AU55...can't tell for sure as I know nothing of this series. :thumb:

Lets wait for PCGS's opinion on the grade.
    Good luck

I agree that the reflection and possibly some hazing of the plastic or mylar (as it appears to be in a 2x2 or other type coin holder) makes the coin appear of a less grade than it actually is! I copied and pasted the images to my PC, added contrast, cropped them and have attached the edited images below which show that the coin is in fact a much higher grade. From the edited pics, I believe that the coin will at least grade AU-50 but may go even higher as I believe that even with the editing, the plastic or mylar is still detracting from the true condition and quality of the coin! Therefore, I believe that the coin should fetch at least $3,000 but may go much higher, if the coin is actually of a higher grade and also due to the low mintage.

still just being able to get one of the 3 dollar coins is nice. I'd love to get one for my type set.

    Just for reference.....

In the last auction I went to, an 1878 in Unc went for $1800.

Your coin has a lower mintage.
I don't know what to grade your coin at, but it books for $4000 in AU-55.

I hope that helps a bit.

Reckon we'll see. IMO the coin would grade VF at best. However I think it has been harshly cleaned ( thus the low estimate ) and that PCGS will body-bag the coin.

    'Course I've been wrong before.

    The Coin is Graded!

PCGS graded the coin and marked it as an XF45. Im happy with that although my friend, who is a coin "expert" supposedly, said it was no less than an AU. Well - PCGS hsa spoken and Im not too unhappy with it.

    EDITED---No offers to buy/sell/trade please.

p.s. This coin ins ms64 went for over $18,400. I know that is no indication on the value on this coin - but it's still cool and worth mentioning :hail:

regrade it, or send it to NGC, whats another grading cost you when you are selling it for good money?

i dont want to spend another 100 bucks on getting it graded.... plsu I already spent an arm and aleg buying the coin in the first place :) I'll just accept the XF45 grade on it. EDITED---Same reason

Although when I copy and paste the pictures to my PC and blow them up, the coin appears to have at least AU-50 details, I am happy that it graded EF-45! Considering the grade and that it now resides in a PCGS holder, the coin should fetch about $2,500 but I wouldn't be suprised if it only brings $2,000 or brings as much as $2,800 at auction.

    Good luck...Frank
