My latest nickel bank box started off with a bang right from the get go with a 1937 buffalo ender staring at me. Two more were found later, one barely legible from the 1920’s and the other a well worn 1913 only discernible by the raised mound reverse. Other notable finds were a 1997-S Proof, a 1943-P, and a 2024-P.

Cool. A Buffalo ender. Wow! That doesn't happen too often. A Type 1 in there, too. Neato, even if it was dateless. Nice shiny proof and a silver Warnick were icing on the cake.

Three buffalos, very nice! I haven't found one searching since the late aughts, well done!

Another nickel box was completed today. This one was pretty uneventful. The only notable finds were a low mintage 1955 and a 1953-S. The early decade count saw five from the 1940s and ten from the 1950s. Additionally, there was three from 2024 (not pictured), one P and two D’s.

My friendly bank tellers alerted me the other day that some customer rolled coins were cashed in at the bank. I purchased them in hopes of getting a good find. Unfortunately that was not the case. The only significant score was a 2009-P dime. Oh well! IMG_6769.jpeg IMG_4759.jpeg

I got skunked as usual. (W's. S's, silver, etc.) But I had 4 upgrades. Jovita Idar, there were a large number of very nice ones in these rolls (after they came out almost 2 years ago) and a decent Mary Edwards Walker I haven't seen many of those at all. And my first Ida B Wells I have ever seen after a year. This one will need to be upgraded one day but it filled a hole that has been bothering me. The strangest one was a Vermont state quarter. A little nicer then the one I already have. Seems MS to me which is odd when you find it in circulation 25 years later.

Even for quarters, "circulation" isn't what it used to be.

The one in my book was nice. It even toned a little after 25 years.
But this one had less nicks, and better luster. I kept the old one anyway.
I had been spending my replaced coins that upgraded. But if they are MS or close I am saving them. I had them in 35mm film canisters and they stayed intact. Less than 10 years ago I put them in Whitman albums and that caused a light toning but they still look very good. I try and get the best specimen (from circulation that I can.)

IMG_6432.jpeg IMG_6433.jpeg A box of dimes bought yesterday. Three silver dimes. 2 1964d and a 1954d. Absolutely crazy considering I’m averaging a silver every three boxes or so ever since I got back in the game in December.

After the initial sort... one silver dime, two wheat cents, one canada nickel, and a couple mexico 50 centavos.

IMG_6437.jpeg IMG_6436.jpeg Had a fun nickel box yesterday. Pictures are crap but the best I can do. There was 4 buffalo nickels, a 1911 v nickel and my second ever 1950 d. Yes the buffalo nickels are trashed and so is the v nickel but still fun to find.

Aggravating near miss on a nickel. Got a 1939-S from a roll. For a moment I thought I finally filled in the folder slot, until I realized (like most people) I needed the 1939-D.

Still a key date, but I already have that slot filled. Maybe someone would trade? I only have 8 slots remaining in my folder (38-D, 39-D, 42-S, 43-D, 49-S, 51-S, 53-S, and 55).

I got myself excited a few weeks ago when I found a 39s thinking I had found the last key date I needed for my book. Turns out it’s the 1938s I’m missing.

I might as well share one of my best roll-searching cherrypicks of all time, from back in 2006. Technically I found this in a bulk Wheat cent bag and not a bank roll.

So I didn’t get this for face value but I essentially paid five cents or less for it. Later sold it for $700-ish after PCGS graded it XF40.

When I found it in the bag, there was a little piece of dirt hiding the mintmark. I was initially happy enough finding an XF 1914 alone, but when I removed that speck of gunk with a toothpick and saw that “D” underneath, I let out a shout that awoke my sleeping wife!

I think I got about four months. The only bank in town with a coin counter got sold to PNC who does not have coin counters. So until then I’m going to hit it hard with nickels and dimes to try and complete my books.

Finished off the rest of my boxes from the week. Had 3 more dime boxes with silver. Two boxes had two dimes a piece. 8 nickel boxes produced 1 silver 7 buffalos and a v nickel. Also a 39s and 50d. Out of 8 dime boxes 4 had silver for a total of 8 silver dimes and a 1952s that was a hole filler. Only 7 more dimes to fill my silver Rosie book. The buffalo nickels in this pic are 1936, 1929 and 1916. IMG_6441.jpeg
