Those don't look like the same coin.

    MM placement looks right.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

You are absolutely correct. The coin in post 1 is definitely not the same coin as post 3. Just look at the gash in the A on coin 1 compared to the second coin.

@Inspector43 ... which coin are we judging? The coin in post 1 is not a D over horizontal D... the coin in post 3 is.

You are right. The 42 D over horizontal D is post 3. The other one is a 55 D. Sorry for the mix-up.

In that case, I think you have a nice find!

    Where did you find it?

CRH from my local bank. In the series of 1942 through 1945 I have found about two dozen in the past couple months. I'm including several of the regular composition 42's.

Dang, that's pretty good. You must have searched a lot of rolls for those. I'd think those would be pretty scarce to find.

I've never roll-searched, but the idea of it sounds fun.

i have been active in coin collecting my entire life - well more than 75 years of it. It is very depressing that most of the country trades in plastic. I need the fix you get from hunting. I have been doing about $300 a week in nickels. I think the 42 regular composition are more scarce than the silver.

The '42-D is a bear. Usually these are in AG/ G condition so a F D/ D is something very special.

A beautiful red example of a D over a horizontal D. Very nice find.
