Sounds like you had a great time. If I had some buddies that collected I would make it an annual trip to hang out with. I just don't know many collectors at all.
Funny thing about that. I fell out of bed a couple of months ago. Fell just like a cat. Paws first. What do you suppose that means?
Lucky? My wife got out of bed last month and tripped on the sheets. She busted her chin and lip up pretty bad and had to go to emergy care and get several stitches. I'm pro night lite that's plugged into a socket for these very reasons. I was out of town that night.
You or anybody else at CT goes, we meet up. It's not a Formal Ball where you need invites !! I met JohnMilton and PhysicsFan back at FUN 2020 at some room where about 15 people just congregated late on Day 1. PF wasn't at FUN 2026 but I did attend JM's $5 Half Eagle talk (outstanding) and get to say hi after the talk.
Guys, do you think these pics are clearer ? They look that way to me on my phone and also on my PC. If clearer, just LIKE it, no need to post. If not, don't like it.
The 2nd batch is definitely clearer. I took them with my S24 smartphone....regular preset (PHOTO setting)....coins are in those 3" tall plastic plate/coin display holders....about a 60-70 degree angle face-on.....Green Bankers Light frosted bulb about 1 foot away. The earlier photos the light source was 6 feet away...that's apparently too far....the closer the light source, the more the lens (or at least a smartphone lens) can worry less about grabbing light and instead focus on the coin details and focus sharper.
The pillow wall is almost as great as the coins. House keeping clear out a closet or did you go without a pillow of your own? I know you study Saints a lot, just curious what you think the run up in gold will do with them and are many of them losing a numismatic bounce? james
The 2nd bed was unoccupied that night so I had free use of all the pillows. Even when my friend stopped by I had most of them free. James, numismatic premiums continue to fade. You can pick out any examples from a few years ago to see that but this chart (though it ends a few years ago) shows you the trend even for a Gem Quality Saint. Here's a few examples from my list. The 1908 No-Motto MS-66 Wells Fargo w/CAC+OGH that I wanted was about $4,500 in mid-2022 when gold was about $1,700 (premium ~ 150%). Today that same coin costs $6,000 with gold at $4,500 (33% premium). Generic MS-65's (1924, 1927, 1908 NM, etc.) which in the past sold for about 25% premiums to gold when it was ~ $2,000 or a bit less ? Now the premiums are single-digits. You just have to BUY THE COIN that you like and you have to be willing to accept that in 10 or 20 or 30 years...it could be valued just like raw bullion if the price of gold goes high enough. Yup, even for certain MCMVII HRs !!
FUN 2026 Pics: The view from my hotel at the Rosen Centre, looking down at the OCCC East/West (North/South on the other side).... The bar in the Rosen Centre Hotel, a popular place to hang out, get a bite to eat, and discuss the happenings at FUN. The entrance on Day 1 to the bourse..... Long line on Day 1 at 11:15 AM, a few hundred feet. At FUN 2020 it was 3 people right at the open; FUN 2026 it was over 100 people ahead of me even hours later. The bourse on Day 2...... Rosen Centre Hotel at night. Ben Franklin was in attendance !! Vines Steakhouse was a place that Arnold Palmer went to all the time (might have been a part-owner)....had his own room (white door you can Zoom in on) ! I got the Mahi-Mahi sashimi appetizer My 2 Double Eagles....a Liberty Head and a Saint...showing off their luster on my desk. I'll be putting them into storage in a few days (weeks ? ) but in the meantime I am enjoying looking at them, revelling in the thrill of finding them at FUN 2026, and wondering about their history over the decades.
