This one should be on the Weird or What show with William Shatner.
I'm stumped on this one. Good thing I work for free!
    Any ideas??
    Waiting for more pics......

I wonder what happens when you hit a zincoln with a laser welder or similar pinpoint source of extreme temp? Could it leave the date intact?

being that it is a zincoln my immediate thought is some type of zinc rot..

One wonders, but if so, that's quite unusual.

I wonder about a planchet flaw, but if that divot existed on the blank planchet before striking, would the date struck over that area be as clear as it is? Dunno.

…looks like a drop of clear adhesive, like maybe super glue or some such. Not epoxy, I think a dried drop of that would be cloudy.

Yes, it does look like that, but on the other hand, it looks more to me like that area is recessed below the date and the surface of the coin, not raised above it.

What say ye, Sal? Is that a sunken depression, or a raised blob of some clear substance?

No, we're waiting for an answer from YOU, Sal, as you're the one with the coin, yes?

Is that a sunken depression under the date, or is it a raised blob of some clear substance?

It looks like a sunken depression to me. If so, that makes it very interesting.

If not, and that’s a raised deposit of some clear substance, then it’s nothing but a “spender” cent.

where is the spot on the reverse, is it at the "O" in ONE ?
    Is there any anomaly there?

Because of the light, the spot looks raised to me.
The lips/chin area show the reflection of a light from the right.
The same angle reflection on the circle is show on the right side,
and a diffused area on the left side of the circle makes me think this is a solidified liquid drop of some sort.

Of course having it in hand an inspecting it is best. Take a toothpick and push it across the surface to see if it is indented or raised.

Light is coming from the right.

If it were a raised lump of metal, there'd be a highlight on the right, and a shadow on the left.

If it were a recessed area, there'd be a shadow on the right, and a highlight on the left.

There are highlights all around the area on this photo. To me, that means a blob of something transparent stuck to the coin's surface.

It looks raised to me so I’d say bits a spot of glue or something like it.

    So sorry, :sorry:.
I was helping someone out and was stumped, so I figured what better forum to post it in. Afterall, some of the people here are more of an expert than any other site. ;).
I'm never leaving. Nope, not me. Wait! I've got a lot to learn still. :D
