#1 reason for me to start learning how to attribute Overton Varieties was counterfeit detection. If you have a coin and you can not determine which Obverse Die & which Reverse Die was used, guess what, it's either a discovery of a new Die Marriage or it's a counterfeit. The chances of discovering a new Die Marriage are very very slim
