I searched $120 of the $555 in halves and found only one silver, but I filled some holes. Here is all that I found:

    1968D
    1994D
    1997D
    1999P
    2003P

I was pleased with those results. This bag will keep me bust till next week. :)

It's a small pic, but it looks like it could be a Denver Mint designation coin, found in proof sets.

It's a token that used to come in mint sets. Sometimes they were copper, sometimes they were plastic. Don't remember if there were ever wood ones.

Here's a pic of a mint set with plastic ones.

I wonder if they used penny planchets for those, in which case the change counter would ring it up as a cent.

well, its definately the same size as a penny
and when I drop it, it sounds like copper
so yeah i guess it would be passed off as a penny

I'll check the inspection stamp on the box I went through last night. It contained a whopping lone '67 and nothing else.

"Streaks" are possible where I live (good ones and bad ones) mainly due to the fact that the population of Wyoming is only about 500,000 people. Halves that are returned to a bank branch will quickly find their way back into rolls and into boxes if there is little other "activity" at the time they are returned. I've confirmed this by marking coins, specific dates in specific ways. I've seen those coins again in as little as two weeks.

Alternatively, the inspection stamps to which you referred can come in handy. Mine are dated. For example, searching a box dated February of this year might yield good results. That could mean Loomis Fargo had a fresh influx of "new" coins, and other boxes packaged in February could likely be good. Conversely, if several boxes with a similar date on them turn out to be bad, it is possible that you are seeing many of the same coins again for a second or third time.

After becoming a member to Coin Talk in July I have searched 25 rolls of halves and have found a car wash token. Today I got seven rolls from a credit union in the grocery store. I scored two nice maybe AU Kennedys. One 1968D and a 1969D. Finally:cool::smile

Dejavu, I just found a car wash token this week too (Platinum Car Wash & Lube Center). I did a google search and they appear to still be in business in Wheaton, IL. A little too far for me to drive just to see what I won. I tried recirculating it at the change counter, but it rejected it.

Today was the first time in a while that I have been able to roll search. I was mainly looking for pre-1982 stuff and found quite a bit, but found a 1983 Canadian cent. No wheaties this time.

I'm still looking through the 47 rolls of pennies, and I found one massive die crack, 12 wheats and some nice 70's and 80's unc. cents for the album I'm starting. Still 4 rolls left from that bunch! That was a lot of searching...
