    Maybe, someone was trying to plate the coin. There have been a couple posted here over the years. The first photo looks like that. The second picture doesn't show well.

    I bought a modern cent. Finally thought it over enough, and decided to include the Shield design in my Type Set.

    This is the coin I chose.
