Hi there, I recently found a nearly un circulated roll of 1959 D pennies, just wondering if it's worth breaking the vintage seal to look for errors or just let them be since I don't think there are errors too look for..or am I being conservative? The seal itself is ridiculously strong Sent from my ASUS_Z012DA using Tapatalk
Are you sure they are all the same year/mm? Even so, they have probably already been searched. That plastic tube is an after-market addition. Chris
Speaking from experience, that is most likely going to be one PITA to open. Try not to break any fingers!
And here's the bad news! PVC in that old tube.....if I were you I open or unload them....as I'm concerned that in the middle of the roll is going to be some tainted coins. I say this as I have had older tube that had unc. Nickels in them...and it wasn't pretty.
My girlfriend's great uncle bought them way back, he said that he never went through them. So that being said I'm positive they're not in circulated, but all are in very good condition. I got the top off with a blow torch, only to find think plastic lining inside the tube! Lol! Sent from my ASUS_Z012DA using Tapatalk
If I do get them out, what should I be looking for in a 1959 D? I've searched the forum, but I think I only have half of a list put together Sent from my ASUS_Z012DA using Tapatalk
Correct! Allegedly is true also. I met with Fred Weinberg once and we spoke on the subject. He said it's a counterfeit.
The curious part was at one point it was turned over to the Secret Service and they verified it was authentic. Hoffman is rotting in prison for forging documents and selling them to the LDS church.
A whole bunch of BU rolls are in holders just like that, running from about 1956-1961. I recently snagged 2 1957's, 2 1960's, and a 1956-D. The ones with caps at both ends can be especially hard to pry off. Someday I'll search the 1960's for SD over LD doubles.
Nice roll! I've always wondered if it was worth snatching these up if I see them. I guess everyone searches for different things so what I'm looking for may not be what you are. Thanks for posting!
