I have this beauty of a Morgan Silver Dollar here. I inherited her from my great-grandfather. I took it to a pawn shop to see what they thought, and they said it was one of the most beautiful coins they had seen of this type. I think it’s AU-55+. What are your thoughts? Thank you so much!
it's a gift from your great grandfather, that's what matters, no matter what the grade. PS It's not AU55+ maybe 45 or 50 at most.
xf-au as dwhiz said 45-50.. but I will add looking at the 2nd obverse pic it's also been cleaned.... after blowing up the pic.. I'm sure it's been cleaned... so xf-au details "cleaned"
You might try VAMWorld.com. That site deals with nothing else but Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars. I agree, close to extra fine to AU on the grading.
Agree XF-ish/harshly cleaned in spots. As mentioned above, gift from great grand Dad? Priceless heirloom......
I appreciate all of your responses. I never thought it might be cleaned. And yes, I always wish that those.white spots on the upper left were not there.
Receiving it from your Grest-grandfather is more precious than any value. I would say the coin is in XF-45 grade but it has been cleaned and that makes it a details coin. The cleaning was not the way to go on this one.
That happened most likely to remove something, there are proper ways to deal with the spot besides rubbing it. Could have been in a pocket, I am sure your Grandpa's. Priceless if you ask me.
