Lamination on Medieval Coins?

I purchased a Hiberno-Norse penny a while back and tried to send it to PCGS to have it graded and it came back ungradable 83 Lamination. I knew the coin had a split flan, but I guess I don't really understand what this is referring to. I've seen pictures of NGC Details Graded coins with lamination as a description so I'm not sure if it would be worth sending there or if I should just forget it. All my other Hiberno-Norse pennys are in holders so this bugs me, but maybe I should just cut my losses and store it elsewhere.

Not an expert, at first glance I would say that the coin was mounted previously in a piece of jewelry. Or a cud, but that is more of a modern problem than ancient or medieval.

Cool coin. Maybe they just pigeonholed the flan crack under "lamination" because it was the closest category they had. I suppose you could give it a go at NGC.

With PCGS and NGC both it's hit and miss when it comes to problem coin designations. Very same coin - one day they'll grade it, next day they won't, and there is no rhyme or reason to it.
