Coinflation shows ASE's are now $85 and change and sellers on the bay gotta make money so there's some ridiculous prices and plenty of fakes listed! :( Anyone here still stacking and what's the top price you'll pay for 1 single ASE? Just wondering, anyone remember buying ASE's for right around $20, great memories, eh'! lol.gif

Short answer, nope. The precious metal spot price is a falsehood. Normal people cannot buy PM at spot nor sell it at spot. The spot price is heavily manipulated so bullion distributors always make a profit regardless of whether it goes up or down. I prefer to buy when prices are low and sell when they're high.

At least one of the big online sellers is buying and selling junk 90% below spot. Spot price minus a dollar per actual silver ounce for mixed dimes and quarters.

    As always, ASEs trade higher.

Personally I'm trying to figure out what silver I have that I'm not attached to so I can sell it. If you bought it for $20 and can sell it for $80 I'd say that's a heck of a profit. Even if it might go higher there's nothing wrong with selling at that margin. Unfortunately most of my silver is collectible and not just bullion so I don't have much I want to part with. Also when I've sold silver on eBay lately it has to be far below spot to sell. No one is paying the spot price on there for my stuff at least.

I'm skeptical at these prices, but hear others are buying at any price...I bought a dozen Morgans a couple months ago for $28 ea, was at a club meeting last Thursday and there were dollars for $44, but only 1 sold. The chat was price will continue upward.

Those were the good old days...$500 gold and $5 silver in the early 2000s. I couldn't wait to sell my silver, but prices were soft for years. This rally could go on for a long time, so I just wait for good deals to show up, and they do...a lot of folks need money right now. Inflation is so high that PMs will continue upwardly. Gold to silver ratios were about 1-100 for years, so silver right now is abnormally high, if that means a damn thing these days.

May of last year I bought an ancient and the dealer was a little slow in getting it sent out. Not bad by any means. I didn't complain. When I received it to my surprise, I opened the box and there was a bullion ASE in Littleton plastic thrown in for free for the delay. The ancient was not high dollar by any means.

The last one I actually bought was at the end of December, I used my bullion card points at Apmex (in a panic LOL) and bought a plain bullion one for $94 plus shipping but with the points I ended up paying $37 out of pocket, with a plastic capsule for it.
I'm bracing for updated prices at the US mint this year as I'll probably go for a dual date proof, Congratulations set and the enhanced dual date uncirculated if I'm able to get any of them. I think US Mint product offerings are going to go like Vault Boxes this year.

Watch ebay live sales at night. I've seen some weird silver like silver shotgun shells sell for below spot but most everything else sells for way over spot. It doesn't matter if there's only 50 people in the room. Watched a vintage silver towne 1 oz end at $92 shipped. I would have had to bid 95 to get it. Next up, an 1890-P Morgan, likely cleaned in a 2x2 went for $250. Can get a graded PCGS 64 for $175 shipped right now.

Coincidentally, I just got this email from the Mint:

So you may not be able to buy the stuff even if you're willing to pay current silver prices and the Mint's always-exorbitant markups.

I got the same e-mail and thought the same thing. I thought the mint had already paid for the blanks, or that was my understanding. They will take products off the product schedule to mark up the price?

Yes, I know. Seems like the more the prices go up the more the hysteria sets in. I can't blame people for ignoring silver when it was relatively so flat for so many years but a lot of us knew this day had to come. Just didn't know when. Now the games getting expensive.

They're still a business trying to make a profit and if the winds blow in their favor, there's no way they're going to give us a break on planchets purchased last year. Your break is no tax charged I guess.

Things are changing rapidly now. About 13.5 months ago the one oz gold flowing hair went on sale for $3600 and change. If it went on sale today, according to their price chart, it'd be $5500. Eight months ago silver briefly dipped below $30 for what may be the last time and who knows where it'll be by late February. I hope it drops but the way things are looking I wouldn't bet on it.

Proof ASEs in Oct of 2021 were $73. I bet they're about to become $110 which is no surprise. Think a lot of people were predicting it just didn't expect it this fast.

I will buy one 2026 for my set but that's about it. Most yeafs I wouldn't buy them as soon as they were released because if I waited a few months I could get them a little cheaper. I'm thinking that that won't happen this year so I'll get one as soon as they are available.

I buy my ASEs from Apmex, Provident or Liberty .. who ever is cheaper and I buy enough for free shipping.

    2016 & 2017 I was buying ASEs for under $20.

ASEs are like potato chips .. can't have just one .. because the shipping would raise it's breakeven price. So buy as many as needed for free shipping.
