Has anyone seen this before? Can anyone tell me anything? Please? I have my redbook now, but I need to get the cherrypickers guide too....

Looks more like post mint damage.

I agree that the doubling is Die Deterioration doubling!

post mint damage - looks like a nick on the nose making it look doubled.

Sure look like a nick not doubled just a hit to the nose.:kewl:

Yeah, it has Post Mint Damage! However, note the doubling on the end and under Jefferson's chin and the mushy lettering on LIBERTY. While the chin doubling appears somewhat like Machine Doubling, it is probably the result of Die Deterioration as I have seen many Jefferson Nickels just like it! It appears that the lettering on the Reverse are also mushy but it is really hard to tell for sure due to the bad pic.

17 years later, I'm just commenting to say this is not PMD. I found a nickel that has the exact same thing.

You can see how something round like a coin rolling machine, wrapping machine, or other round object created those grooves; it is also evident in the forehead.

Coining of nickels hasn’t changed much in the time these two nickels were minted despite the years. Yours is damaged and welcome to CT.

Good to see you here after so many years. I think you've been absent longer than anyone I remember.:)
