An amazing condition coin. It's like you got into your Delorean went to the mint and took it out of the celators hand. That's a beauty!!!

Ready for 1596? I am and I'm bored this morning trying to keep busy at work.

I have 2 varieties of the same coin.

This piece belongs to the series of so-called emblematic thalers, which refer to the duke's disputes with some rural aristocrats. On this "lying" coin the duke is represented by a lion crowned by an angel, who tears up a Capricorn, or, the plaintiffs.

I guess, technically it isn't 2 different varieties, just different dies. The differences are most notable in the date and angel.

    Parma Mint
    Ranuccio I Farnese
    Postumus issue (Alessandro Farnese)

Alessandro Farnese, Duke of Parma was suppose to have commanded Spanish forces in land invasion of England. But the famous Armada could not destroy the English naval forces in 1588. Thus, he kept leading Spanish armies vs Dutch rebels in Flanders.
