I picked up a new camera because it was inexpensive and has higher resolution than the old one. It's a Nikon Coolpix S3700 that I got off ebay for $79 with free shipping. I thought I would try it on these bronze coins and I'm pretty happy so far.

Photos are a bit dark. You can brighten them up a bit though in photoshop or something similar.

I brightened them up a bit. Any more and I think they may look washed out.

Excellent coins and photos! I like the sestertius as is but would lighten the dupondius just a bit. As a general rule, when you lighten an image in postprocessing it is usually best to increase the contrast a similar amount. This tends to correct any washed out look you might cause.

Did I mention, I really like that sestertius photo!

Thanks Doug, it's a work in progress. I'm still learning to use both the camera and the Paint Shop Pro software. I will play with the contrast and see what happens. I'm pretty happy with the $79 camera though.

I love the images. Good job. Really!!! I thought I would try to lighten the dupondius, but I see what you mean. Too much by just a little and it appears washed out. Lucius Verus Dupondius Fortuna RIC-1341a.jpg

Bing, I got about the same results but yours looks a bit better. The surfaces look a little smoother in hand too. I think the light coming from the side really exaggerates the imperfections.

I love your Verus's bronzes, Alde!

Great coins both, they make a good pair as they are both of the same type (Fort Red). I specially like the sestertius. It shows a nice contrast effect between the legends and the bust and other devices.

I also think your picture are just fine. Certainly way better than mine:)
