Appears to be bronze. Same size as a nickel and the edge is smooth. Coin 1.JPG 2.JPG 3.JPG 4.JPG 5.JPG 9.JPG 5.JPG

    Yes to dryer damaged Quarter.
The heat affected the color of the clad.
    Not a Mint Error :yack:

If the quarter was struck on a nickel planchet (as a quarter) it couldn't have full quarter rims.

Here is a quarter struck on a nickel from my collection. Michael K is 100% correct. When struck, though the nickel planchet fits and expands in the collar when struck by the 25c dies, it doesn't expand enough to completely fill it. Thus, you don't have complete rims. You will also see only partial reeding on the edge because only part of the coin is pushed into the reeded collar.

Looks like someone put a lot of work into a coin ring before figuring out they should be using a 90% silver quarter. :D

How to make a coin ring.

    Nice coin! :wideyed:

I can't believe how well the center struck up.

I have a similar quarter on nickel coin planchet but the uoter rim is raised above on both sides significantly to be the size of a nickel. Coin is in near unc condition but this chat is the closest information I have seen about this error coin.
