I heard a rumor that starting in 2008, the Presidential Dollars will no longer have edge lettering. Is there any truth to this rumor? It's supposed to be because Congress dislikes the first batch of dollars. If so, wouldn't the 2007 dollars be the only dollars with the edge lettering and have a certain value?
there is a lot of chatter going on out there about this subject. i think the edge lettering idea will be scrapped. i think this year is the only year the prez bucks will have edge lettering.the 'in god we trust' and 'e pluribus unum' will be put on the obverse and reverse of the coin. i don't know if that will make them worth more, tho. i'm curious to know what others here think on this thread. grizz
An amendment was passed and add to a bill in the House that would have prevented the mint from using any of their budget appropriation for producing coins with inscriptions on the edge. The amendment was approved and the bill was assed an sent to the Senate. So far nothing has happened in the Senate as far as I know. The amendment is seriously flawed though. It does not remove the inscriptions from the edge of the dollar. It does not put the inscriptions on the face of the coin. The Dollar coin legislation MANDATES that the inscriptions appear on the edge. So if the mint makes president dollar they HAVE to have the inscriptions on the edge, but perthe amendment they are not allowed o spend any money to make them. So if the bill is passed into law and the amendmant is not removed or changed, the result would be that the mint will not be able to strke president dollars legally. And if they simply remove the inscriptions from the edge without specifying where they should appear on the coin then they would not appear on the coin at all because the dollar legislation specificly exempts the dollar coin from pervious laws that did mandate there appearance on the coins. So if they simply take them off, there is no law that puts it back on. That woud mean coins with no IGWT, no E PLURBUS UNUM, no date, and no mintmark. Bad amendment.
How could they remove the edge lettering to the face of the coin? The faces are already packed with inscriptions.
Here's an CoinWorld article on it. http://online.amospublishing.com/Re...6B9E458E3051FBD5806B46ABC7C22E47BA9&Mode=HTML
let's hope it will pass. i hope no edge lettering. it's a ugliest coin i have ever seen. it look like all the prez coins were damaged. just make it like the sac dollar. well, as far as some premium for the four presidents. i think it should be. maybe 10% to 25% over face value.
Jefferson needs to wipe that smirk off his face. He needs to be all grumping looking like the rest of his group.
