Hi everyone sadly 3 years ago 2 days before Thanksgiving my sister in law Dad died suddenly in his sleep he was early 70s and then 3 months later my sister I. Law mom died after having a stroke and in out of the hospital. But my sister in law wen back to the house she grew up in an hour away and she noticed this brown wooden box she never seen it before she opened it up to find a whole bunch of Morgan and Peace dollars. She never saw them before or knew about them so she had my sister bring them to me to look at them and try to figure out how much they were worth. Yes I am a coin collector but I do not know how to tell how much a coin is worth unless looking in the Red book or even grading a coin. But I knew my sister in law planned on taking them to a coin store to see how much they were worth. But I knew they would not leave my house haha. I offered her $500 for them she took the offer I might have over paid but I don’t care because my sister and sister in law could really use the money. the coins are 2 1887 Morgan, 2 1880 Morgan, 2 1881 Morgan , 1883S, 1883S, 2 1884 Morgan, 2 1889O, 2 1890 Morgan, 2 1886O Morgan, 2 1900O Morgan, 2 1901O Morgan, 1 1921, 1 1921S Morgan, 2 1922 peace Dollars, 2 1923D Peace Dollars, 1924D Peace Dollar,1924 Peace Dollar, 2 1925 Peace Dollar, 1925S Peace Dollar, 1926S Peace Dollar. Sorry for all of the photos. Not sure where my sister in law father bought the Morgan and Peace silver dollars from burial happy to have them now and know that they are at a good home.
At this hour all I can say is you did great. If paid $500 for all of them. I sell them in my antique shop for more than $50 each and I can’t keep them in stock. If you park twice that you’d still be making a profit. Each Morgan and Peace Dollar has .77344 ounces of silver. Take the spot price of silver and multiply it by .77344 and that’s what one coin is worth. Multiply that number by how many coins and there’s the value of them. A LCS or a dealer isn’t going to give you near that amount but you can sell them in other places. If I sold them at $59 each I need to make money when I sell them. If the condition of the coins is better you’d get more but I’m just talking the lowest grade to get their value to give you an idea. Hope that helps and sorry for your loss.
You did very well. Raw silver value alone is $58.00 each and silver is rapidly rising right now. If you gave $500.00 for thirty-two silver dollars then you have more than tripled your money..... However the heirloom your father created for you is worth much more than that. I love his display. Welcome to the greatest hobby in the world!
