I'm throwing my hat into the Round 9 lot. Grandson #2 is showing interest in coins, minerals and anything else Pop Pop bestows unto him. He's almost 6 y/o. A bit young, but that's the age I got his big brother started. We bought him his own 35lb Sentry Safe for Christmas/Hanukah. He was beyond thrilled. I'm excited to get him going on this collecting journey. Happy and Healthy New Year to everyone!
Thanks Shawn. I've been getting much more joy lately in handing out my lifelong collectibles to my kids and grandkids than keeping them for myself. Seeing their happiness in receiving my 'treasures' rather than getting them after I've left the party generates two sets of smiles rather than just their one smile. The old curmudgeon is softening in his old age.
Post entry for round 9. I have nothing even remotely as old as that coin. Beautiful looking coin, and you can't beat a nice merc; crazy bout a mercury.
Need to spread the love a little LM, I even feel a bit cheeky entering the next round when I've already got a prize in front of me.
I'm in for the win. Thank you @lordmarcovan for the contest and the prizes. As for holiday cheer here is a group that I will take to the coin guy on Monday to sell. It should bring more than enough to cover the holiday expenses.
Only have one Ancient. Also, only have "dug" Mercs. Thanks a lot for the entry. Hoping we win! Have a great weekend!
I only have a couple of ancient coins, so please count me in for this round! For the cheerful part: I was finally able to get together with a great friend of mine yesterday, who I haven't seen in several months, and two of his kids, as well. His son, who will be graduating college this year, will likely be moving away afterwards for work, was a wonderful surprise visit as we didn't know if he would be showing up. It was very nice to see them again over the Christmas break
Please count me in on this round. I'm a merit badge counselor for the Coin collecting badge and one of the Boy Scout's i'm working with has an interest in ancient coins, so if i'm the lucky winner of this round, the ancient will be gifted to him upon completion of the badge. Thanks as always for the generosity.
Another for @dano! My brother (six years older than I) was active in Cub Scouts. As a little kid, I was horrified at the notion that I'd have to wear one of those uniforms when I got older. As it turned out, I never joined - although I did briefly engage with an Explorer post for computer stuff when I was in high school. My wife was active in Girl Scouts, both as a member and later as a counselor. She got a lot out of it in both roles.
Received the 1944 merc and walker - thanks to all especially @The Half Dime , @Eric the Red and @lordmarcovan. I will post better pictures in the future when I transfer them to the albums. Happy Merry everyone!
Thank you! It was one of the few merit badges i did earn! My oldest earned Eagle, although he never earned the CC merit badge.
Those sure are 2 beautiful pieces of history. For some reason, I find BU Mercury dimes very fascinating, and their being quite affordable is also straight up my alley. I also want to thank you and @samclemens3991 for your nominations. Like I did earlier in this contest, you will both get the nominations returned, hopefully with a side of luck.
