Here is the Round 8 prize lot, which is a mystery no longer.

This is what @MeowtheKitty just won: :cat:

    • A 2016 1-ounce silver American Liberty medal in US Mint packaging.
    • A 2015 Coin and Chronicles set (Lyndon B. Johnson), with reverse proof Presidential dollar, medal, and postage stamp, all in US Mint packaging.
    • An additional "surprise trinket" or two, of @masterswimmer's choosing.

Pix of the American Liberty medal (any fuzz seen in the photos is on the holder, not the medal itself):

9 is my lucky number as well, Sal. That's why I chose my round in this contest to be Round 9.

Speaking of which, it is time we got going on that. But first, since I number my giveaways, and like to use AI to create a "virtual" coin banner for each giveaway, here that is. Round 9 in this contest is also LordM Giveaway #133, for my archives. (Giveaways #134 and #135 are ongoing in their own threads, as of this posting.)

Now, without further ado... Round 9 in COINmas 2025.

    @lordmarcovan gave to thee...

    • (1) Ancient Greek (Seleucid Empire) Æ18 bronze coin, circa 114-95 BC (writeup in the next post)
    • (1) 1943-S Mercury dime, ICG certified MS66 FB
    • Possibly another "mystery trinket" or two

To enter this round, all you need to do is:

    1. Say that you want this lot, and
    2. post something else coin-related or cheerful.

Then, sometime in the next 2-4 days (depending on my schedule), we'll do the drawing and move on to the next round.

You may of course say you want it for someone else, if you name that person.

    Round summary in Post #1.

Here is the writeup for that Seleucid Greek coin.

Seleucid Empire: ca. 114-95 BC bronze Æ18 of Antiochus IX Cyzicenus, Eros/Nike

    09a.jpg

A bronze Æ18 coin of Antiochus IX Cyzicenus, ruler of the Greek Seleucid Empire, struck between 114/13 and 95 BC.

The obverse portrays a bust of Eros, known to us in modern times as Cupid, here portrayed as an adult male deity rather than the chubby infant we're more familiar with today. The reverse portrays Nike, the goddess of victory.

    Obverse: Bust of Eros right.

Reverse: Nike walking left, holding wreath in right hand. Inscription in Greek.

Diameter: 18 mm. Weight: 4.86 g. Nice earthen patina.

Ex- Ephesus Numismatics, 2 December 2024, with their tag.

Nice prizes but it's mostly like reading Greek. Who's wearing Nikes?

Just in the wee hours. My wife calls it "dry humor". It runs in the family unfortunately. I Wouldn't make it as a comedian then? :nailbiting:

I think you would have to dodge a few rotten vegetables if you were onstage. Might wanna try pantomime or somethin' else. ;)

Okay. I'm in for the lucid Greek coin and little "merc" that could.
