I started as a coin collector in late 1976. By early 1977, my mother had gotten me a subscription to Coins magazine and these Canadian gold commemoratives for Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee had just been issued and were prominently advertised in the magazine. I was dazzled by the flashy proof mirrors and the beauty of the bouquet design.

Of course as a ten year old child at the time, I had no prayer of ever being able to afford one of these. But I swore that one day when I grew up, I would own one. Forty-six years later, I finally achieved that dream when I won this piece in a Heritage auction. It was considerably more expensive by then, but with the runup of gold prices by late 2025, its half ounce of gold content had increased considerably over the price I paid. I am happy to have it and it is one of my favorite modern coins.

    Ex-Heritage Auction 65164, Lot 99063, 30 April 2023.
