My local dig buddy's recent detector finds

    It is perfect weather for detecting right now, here in the Golden Isles of Georgia.

    My friend Billy R. is a Jedi-class detectorist. The finds below are pretty routine for him, though each would have been a mind-blowing find for me. He finds stuff like this all the time, and often in much higher grade than this.

    These are his quick-n'-dirty field shots:

    1806 British halfpenny of King George III

    Here are some other Draped Bust cents that Billy has found over the years. Check out that first one! Both of these are of the 1798 Sheldon-166 variety with the characteristic die break on the reverse. Several of that exact variety have been found in this area. They were nearly new when lost. The level of preservation on that first one is mind-blowing, wouldn't you say? In certain places around here our sandy soil was gentle on buried coppers. Billy also found an incredible 1798/7 once. That one was featured in an article in Coin World.
