Wow, my credit union actually had customer-rolled halves!

Glad I read this before answering, that would have been my guess too, at these silver prices today. That bank mine is dry!

If they are somones dumps then nothing.
But, if someone was clearing out some old stale ones to get some Xmas cash, then 1 90, a few 40s and a possible oldie.

Are the PLs worth anything? I NEVER see half dollars in circulation, but then again, I rarely pay with cash. The 3% rebate on CC purchases is just too easy.

Half dollars don't circulate. There's no slot for them in cash registers,
most vending, self serve machines, etc. don't accept them. They are too large to carry around and not worth very much. Besides the penny they should have stopped making halves as well. Make a $1, $2 and $5 coin.
They last 30-100 years and that makes them more economical than bills which wear out 3-9 months despite the lower cost to produce.

Google has decided I need to see every story from some guy who has a financial-advice show, and today there was one where he was railing against credit cards - "if you think you're coming out ahead because you pay the card off every month, you're fooling yourself". His take was that you feel pain when you spend cash, but when you use a credit card you're not even aware of how much you're spending. My take: that's a him problem, not a me problem.

We'll make an event outta this. I'll open and post the results, one roll at a time.

Hopefully it won't turn out like the time Geraldo Rivera blasted open "Al Capone's Vault". ;)

    Roll #1.

    All clad.

    Mostly 1971-72, with one dark-toned 1980-P.

    No Bicentennials or post-2000 coins.

    Nothing interesting.

    Roll #2.

    All clad.

    All 1970s coins.

    (8) 1973.
    (1) 1974-D.
    (10) Bicentennials; one or two nicely lustrous.
    (1) 1979.

    Nothing particularly interesting.

    Roll #3.

    All clad.

    (10) 1970s coins; two of them black from environmental damage.
    (2) Bicentennials.
    (3) 1980s coins.
    (3) 1990s coins.
    (1) 2000-P.
    (1) UNC 2021-P.

That last is mildly interesting, given it's the newest half dollar I've so far encountered in coin roll hunting, and with a mintage of 5,100,000, it's got a relatively lower mintage. But does it count as a keeper? Not quite, I think. Guess I'll set it aside in case anybody here is working on an album and needs some of the later dates. (Message me if you need the ‘21-P.)

    Roll #4.

    All clad.

    (8) 1970s coins; many of them 1977.
    (12) 1980s coins; most of them dated 1980.

    No Bicentennials or post-2000 coins.

    Nothing interesting.

    Roll #5.

    All clad.

    (1) 1971-D; UNC with very, very slightly misaligned dies, but not enough to be interesting. Has a little smutz on the reverse, so I'll toss it back in the roll.
    (8) other 1970s coins, excluding Bicentennials.
    (5) Bicentennials.
    (2) 1980s coins.
    (3) 1990s coins.
    (1) 2021-D; dark from environmental damage and beat up as well.

That last is mildly interesting, but for the wrong reasons. Later date, again. It's had a rough life in the last four years.

Roll 6. Halfway through the batch now.

    All clad.

    (21) 1970s coins, all dated 1971 or 1972. Some nicer; one 1971 with again, very, very slightly misaligned dies, but nothing worth keeping.

    No Bicentennials or later dates.

Nothing particularly interesting, aside from the fact that the whole roll was made up of just those two years.

Oh- and the one good thing here is that somebody miscounted, in my favor- there was an extra coin in the roll- 21 pieces. So that's something, right? I'm fifty cents ahead in the game now. :)

    Roll 7.

    All clad.

    (9) 1970s coins; no Bicentennials.
    (4) 1980s coins.
    (6) 1990s coins; two were UNC 1995-P.

Nothing interesting here except that this roll was short by one coin- only 19 pieces. Bummer- there goes my profit from the one extra coin in Roll #6. Oh well, it balances out.

    Roll 8.

    All clad.

    (10) 1970s coins; one is a relatively handsome UNC 1974.
    (1) Bicentennial.
    (3) 1980s coins; ugly.
    (1) 1996-D; scuffy.
    (4) 2020s coins; all BU. One 2021-P, two 2023-P, and one 2023-D. The 2023 coins are super nice looking.

Hm. Mildly interesting, I guess, for the later-date stuff here. 2023 is now the latest date I have encountered while CRH. I notice the mintages for that year were back up into 8 figures, though, with the 2023-P at 30,200,000 and the 2023-D at 27,800,000. So nothing special there, I guess. Nevertheless, I will set the UNC 1974 and the four 2020s coins aside in case anybody needs those dates.

    Roll 9.

    All clad.

    (5) 1970s coins; no Bicentennials.
    (8) 1980s coins.
    (6) 1990s coins.
    (1) 2001-D.

Nothing especially interesting here. And not a silver coin in sight yet, three-quarters of the way through the batch. I am starting to get discouraged on that front. Oh well. There are still three rolls left.

    Roll 10.

    All clad.

    All 1970s coins.

    (12) assorted 1970s; some nicer looking but nothing really worth keeping.
    (8) Bicentennials; a couple look UNC.

Rats- still no silver. Only two rolls left. I won't give up hope just yet.

    Roll 11.

    All clad.

    Again, all 1970s coins.

    (13) assorted 1970s; almost all 1974-dated coins. A couple look UNC.
    (7) Bicentennials.

Ho hum. Just one roll left...

    Roll 12.

    All clad.

    (14) 1970s coins. A couple of the 1971 pieces have those very, very slightly misaligned dies- must've been a thing that year. Not worth keeping, though.
    (2) 1980s coins.
    (3) 1990s coins.

Well, folks, just like "Al Capone's Vault", this overall batch was a bust, I'm afraid. The bank teller and those who pessimistically predicted zero silver were correct, unfortunately. :(

And this roll was also short a coin- 19 pieces. So one roll had an extra coin and two rolls were short by one coin. Giving me a net loss of one coin- fifty cents- across the whole disappointing batch. Bummer.

Ah well. So it goes. Thanks for watching. :)

I will set aside the following for a few days, in case anybody needs them (just message me):

    (1) 1974; UNC with just the tiniest hint of bluish toning.
    (2) 2021-P; UNC- lower mintage of 5,100,000 pieces.
    (2) 2023-P; BU- nice.
    (1) 2023-D; BU- very nice.
