Teller asked what I was looking for.

    “Silver”, I replied.

“Oh, our half dollars don’t have any silver in them”, she said.

I hope she (and @messydesk) are wrong.

    Tonight we’ll find out. ;)

90+% of the time it's returns from somebody else who's searched them for silver.

But buying them and searching them yourself is the only way to find that other <10% - at least at face value.

Waiting to see what you find!

My dealer friend made what I think is a realistic prediction, which I’d be happy enough with:

    2-40%
    0-90%

But last time, out of a much smaller sampling, I got a Walker and a Franklin, so you never know!

The credit union is in an area with a lot of wealthy and often elderly residents (and not many collectors), so…

I’ve made some nice strikes in the past, but I’ve also struck out completely on other batches. There’s no telling.

Guess that’s part of the fun of it, huh.

ANY silver at all, and I’ll be happy.

Or an impaired proof or a clip or something.

The two branches I use, same bank, the tellers know all
about silver. They search the rolls just like the rest of us.

Many years ago I had a teller friend. Told her I would buy anything from her that seemed odd or different. That went fine for a while and I stopped hearing from her so I stopped by. I had unwittingly turned the young lady into a coin collector!

I'm giving you an under and an over . . .

    Either under (1) 90% and under (1) 40%, OR

    over (20) 90% and over (20) 40% . . . nothing in between.

My rationale? These are either completely picked clean, or they were rolled by someone who didn't know what they had and couldn't be bothered to figure it out.
