Hard to see the steps. However, in this shape, I'd say no. Value? 1946 D Jefferson Nickel Coin Value Prices, Photos & Info
A nice coin, and I'd hold on to it, but I wouldn't think it had more than a few cents of extra value at most. Someone needing to fill a spot in an album might pay a dime. On the other hand, you might list it as rare on eBay for hundreds, and who knows? (Just kidding!)
It's worth only a few cents more than face value- less than fifty cents on even the best of days. A cheap, common coin. That being said, it's not bad looking for a 79 year old nickel. It would be a worthy hole-filler in a circulated Jefferson album.
If you go by strictly condition, it appears to be AU53-55. A fair market value at NumisMedia lists a value of 48 cents in AU55. It is a common date. If you tried to sell it my guess is you could be successful at 28-38 cents…imo. The nickel is in a really good condition, did you get it from circulation, CRH or was it gifted or inherited?
If that came from circulation, it was a nice find. Never mind the fact that it isn't worth very much. It's better than the average oldies that are still out there in circulation.
