Yuuup, knew that. My father’s 9th Armored Division stopped the German Panzers at Bastogne until the 101st Airborne could get there. Battle of the Bulge. Four months later he captured the Bridge at Remagen over the Rhine
I don't have all the history because he declined to really talk about it and I didn't know him well, but my uncle also fought in the Battle of the Bulge, in the Army.
My paternal grandfather was some kind of civilian emissary to the British in India during the war. (He came away from it with a strong distaste for the British, I’m told- at least of their imperialist rule there). My other grandfather- my maternal grandfather- was a doctor. He wound up serving stateside, at an Army air base in Florida. I have his silver deployment medal in my coin collection.
@lordmarcovan . What a great medal! thanks for sharing. I always look for something new or interesting to start my day with. james
Please count me in for this contest. I'll have to find it in my collection, but I have a war bonds token from this time frame. Looks to be white metal, perhaps pewter. I'll post a pic when i can put my hands on it.
