I just picked up a great collection of about 100 Morgan and Peace dollars and here are some of the better dates and conditions. Was curious if any of these would elevate to the MS64 or 65 level when the value really gets going. Enjoy!
84CC - there are some really deep gashes in her cheek. I'd have a hard time seeing this as a 64. The reverse is clean though. This is the classic split grade - 63 obverse, 65 reverse. Unfortunately, the obverse usually dominates. 83CC - (why did you list the pictures out of order!) I like this one a lot better... except for the spot in front of her nose. Much less severe marks. I'd call this one a good shot at a 64, unless the pictures are hiding something. Reverse is semi-prooflike which is nice. 1903O - I think this is the highest grade of the lot. I think it is clearly 64.
I'd get the 1903 O graded. It's very nice. The Carson Citys always attract buyers, no matter what grade in BU they are. Really depends on what your plan is for them.
First one won't go that high because of the face chatter, otherwise maybe. The second looks like details to me that is a deep scratch. The 1883-CC looks like 63 if it straight grades. The 1903-O could be 63/64 again I don't have the crystal ball to see if these have been cleaned or dipped.
Thanks for all the input. I think I’ll keep these raw as the CCs have a 63 ceiling and the 1903o doesn’t really spike in value until ms65. I’ll likely end up selling them to fund other interests so I’d rather not wait a short eternity for PCI’s to do their thing.
