Has the US Gov put themselves in the trick bag?

While mulling over Elaine's dollar coin mintage figures, I had this thought:

With the provision in the authorizing legislation for the Pres Dollars, the government has committed to making 1 Sac Dollar for every Pres Dollar. This year the amount of dollar coins minted is absolutely staggering! History says that as the number of a particular denomination in banking system vaults mounts, typically the mint will make fewer of them the following year.

This may not be possible with these coins due to the mandate. I don't think that the mint will be willing to mint the Pres Dollars to anything but demand, and as they do, the Sac count gets higher and higher, or if they decide that the banking system can't hold any more (what I am sure will be a highly poltical decision)... BINGO!!! instant rarity!!!

Is one or the other outcome inevitable????

I just hope my bank will keep on ordering them. I definitely think they will be some rarities in the series, especially with the lesser known presidents.

The mint has said that the Sac dollar will continue to be minted at the same time as the Prez dollar at a ratio of 3:1. Three Prez dollars to every one Sac Dollar until The Prez series is over in 2016 then the Mint will resume full production of the Sac Dollar.

The law calls for One third of the total production to be sackies. Thats 1 sac for every 2 prez.

i think the sacs (possibly changing to saks) will start getting more interesting in the future. i say this because of the real possibility of the proposed changes in the future.

    1. they may start edge lettering on the sac bucks.
    2. they may change the reverses every year or couple of months with an event or famous individual associated with the american indian. by doing this of course now you have a new design! i would think this may cause more interest in the bucks.

Do you want "circulated" too. I use that term loosely as I have yet to really see any under AU.

I'm trying not to break the rules here but if someone wants mine I'd charge face value plus shipping.

If I'm correct I started a thread that relates to this statement.

So for every 2 President coins we'll mint a Sacagamama that no one wants. Soon we'll be swimming in dollar coins that no one wants to spend.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Modern $1 coins just plain suck.

Im just willing to relieve people of these hated dollars and I won't charge for the service.
As for buying them, I get all I need from the bank. I go thru about a roll a week.

You're right, clembo. You did start this same basic thread before and it's only now that it sunk in enough for my lightbulb to go on... lmao
