Just wondering how rare or uncommon a double-clipped, broadstruck LWC may be and what kind of price you might be willing to pay to own one? I have my eye on one and am just trying to get a feeling for what the current market for that kind of thing is. Thanks.
First of all, Planchets are never clipped at any time. They are called that because they appear 'clipped'. They are actually Incomplete Planchets. A Broadstruck and Double Incomplete Planchet I would consider to be rare. It would be interesting if you could provide a picture for us to see the coin. There really isn't a set price for that issue. It depends on the seller or what a collector of such an issue is willing to pay for it. I have purchased similar errors for about $30.00 - $40.00
Photos would be nice and easier to tell us about the coin. Incomplete planchet errors with a double curved clip is fairly common but not with a broad strike.
It looks like no collar to start, but questions about the planchet. The "curved" clip has a larger diameter than the cent. The straight "clip" doesn't look right either at the top. I don't think that this is a normal "shift" error and may have been done after hours.
Prob need to show the edge where the "clips" are as well as the reverse. I am not doubting any authenticity, it looks pretty good. However, I thought the edge of another coin would fit the clip area.
If this is a no collar strike I would expect the "clips" to be other than normal. The unconfined metal movement would distort the regular "clip" shape. However, this is just my opinion.
Is it a valid to think that because of being struck out of collar, that should/could distort the curved shape of the clip? Also, I was thinking what you called the straight one was just a smaller curved one.
It looks like a broadstrike on the right side, The left side did not splay out like the right as the LI of liberty is not distorted the same amount. I also think that a clip will lose it's curvature when broadstruck.
That’s a nice error coin. Definitely an incomplete planchet with 2 curved clips. The clips look that way due to the broad strike.
Could be a partial collar in some way, very hard to tell with out more photos. I also noticed it does not seem to have a proto-rim like a type two planchet. It seem to be double error coin, planchet error and striking error. Maybe one caused the other.
