I must have hit this sometime today. I think I posted this before but I can’t remember. Not remembering comes either older age and a body that’s aching. I have both. lol I bought this coin in June of this year. With the explosive results of the precious metals market I’ve as greasy doubled my money. It was the only one I needed to complete my set. I had the strong date but not the weak date. Now I have both. There are only 15 coins that make up a set of Gold $2.50 Indians. There is only 1 variety in that set. Strong and weak dates, actually the mint mark. In the photos the mint mark is not noticeable. It’s just barely visible in hand bug this is graded by NGC as a 1911-D, weak D $2.50 in AU-55. I’m not a variety collector but I really felt I had to have this one variety. Now I do.
Where do you find great coins like this? Unpacked boxes or are you doing these nerve wrecking auctions?
Beautiful Indian head up there, I used to have quite a few Indian heads, but now I'm down to 3, here's one of my best! The slab is a little skinned but I'm super pleased that the price on these Indians have gone up nicely!
I bought this coin from an auction house that I have dealt with for over 10 years. No nerve wrecking for me but I think I rattled a few others that bid against me.
I went with the $2.50 gold Indians because I felt it would be easier to complete a full set of them. I was right as it didn’t take long to do do. In order but I get the weak D, I did have to wait extra time in order to get the correct opinion.
