    Conrad II was a Holy Roman Emperor from 1024 to 1039, and the name on Genoa's coins, even for a 1603 coin. This reference on the coin is likely an honorific one to that emperor. Another speculation, mentioned in Numista, is that it is the name of a mint master or engraver, but I think that is unlikely given its prominence in the coin's legend. My experience is that engraver and mint master names or initials are very small and often in the field near the portrait or main design element.
