It does make me wonder why somebody was hoarding Jamaican half pennies in a vault at the Trade Center.

yup yup no luck here either my 3 all clear. One for me one for my son and one idk yet lol Still was worth the shot and it's a neat addition too my "pedigree" coins. Hope someone here scores a red core

 

odds are actualy 1 in 50 to get one of the 300 "red cores". Yes it was a gamble. Yes everyone got the "same" coin (this was clearly stated on the ads and webpage)

 

No red core for me, either. Was fun again and I’m pleased that I got this piece of history for my efforts.

 

No luck with my 2, although the one is a very nice Gem/BU piece.

 

Well, I can confirm my buddy bought two.... and one is a red core.

I'm wondering the same. Jamaica or whoever felt the need to store those in a vault in NYC didn't claim them after recovery? Or they got offered more than face value by somebody who wanted to make a buck?

 

This is my educated guess....

When an insurance claim is settled, especially one in which the loss was a total loss, such as the collapse of the WTC's, all salvageable assets belong to the insurance company paying the claim. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if Vault Box or some other 'jobber' bought these Jamaican ½ cents for a song.

 

Anyone willing to post an enlarged picture of this penny?

 

Little late but I ended up paying the tax too.

 

So, no one here won the lottery.

Can update this now. My friend says you just match your number to the key list and email them for your redemption coin. He ended up getting a half oz AGE. They offer the cash buy out before they send it to you or will send you the coin. He's taking the coin. You have to send the slab with the half penny back to them for redemption and you don't get it back.

 

Not a bad return on his investment!!

 

Goofy, in my opinion. But whatever. If he really wants a half penny in addition to the AGE, there'll be plenty of them available from disappointed gamblers.

 

He bought two so he still has one. I've got three.
