I have a question about authenticating a 1879 (yr 12) 1 yen from Japan. I have had it in my collection for years along with a yr 37 50 sen. I am not sure on the authenticity of the 1 yen. Some who have looked at it have said yes, and some no. Hypothetically if I send this coin to be graded and they deem it fake, will it be sent back to me? Or will it be kept by them and I will just get a letter or something saying, sorry, it was a fake?

They will return the coin to you.

Thanks for that. I have over 1,300 silver foreign coins, but it is the only one I question. If it is indeed authentic it has some value.

They return the coin in case you want to return the coin to the dealer you bought it from.
