Roman Empire Silver Denarius of Julia Domna (minted in Laodicea ad Mare sometime between 196 and 202):
If I come to the USA for something related to numismatics, I will go visit the New York International Numismatic Convention and attend Triton in person, but that won't be in 2026, my 2026 numismatic travel plans are to visit Numismata Munich in March, then attend the Gorny & Mosch Auction 317 that will be held right after Numismata, then in May go to Monaco to attend MDC Monaco Auction 18, and then go to Monaco again in October to attend MDC Monaco Auction 19 and Gadoury Auction 2026.
Yes, though I prefer to travel by airplane, for example going from my hometown Zagreb to Munich takes about 6 hours by car, but only about an hour by airplane, so I save 10 hours on my trip by flying instead of driving. Anyway, I forgot to mention above that I also might go Coinex in London in September, but I will decide that once the lots for the auctions that will be held then are announced, because this year there was literally nothing of interest to me at the auctions held during Coinex!
I remember the old days of traveling by air. You dressed up, meals were served on china with metal cutlery. The airlines made you feel special. Nowadays it's like being stuffed in a cattle car and at 6'5" (195+ cm) it's extremely uncomfortable. The last time I traveled to Europe I used airmiles for two round trip business class tickets. It was wonderful. But since I am retired the days of airmiles are long gone. whether you fly or drive: as we used to say in the gem business, travel well, travel safe.
