Hey guys. New to the forum. I was going through my indian heads last night and came a cross an interesting find. The picture explains it better. There are two 1862 indian head pennies. Normal obverse but the "Cent" on the back looks to be double died on the one coin. If you look close...it looks like a "C" and "N" marked over each other. Wanted some intake from you guys. Heard nothing but good things. I appreciate the insight.

I believe you'll find the the "E" in CENT was altered to resemble another letter.

People got a kick out of naughty words even in the 1800s.

As Jeff said and this was also done to the early Large Cents.

A lot of them seem to have been done during idle times in military camps during the Civil War.
