I thought I had lost this 20 cent piece, well didn't lose it. I haven't seen this coin for a good 10-12 years. Thought I would share it with the community, and ask what you would grade it. Happy Thanksgiving!
All things being equal it might be G-04/G-06. However, there were issues with this and difficult to find ones with good details. This is taken into consideration and it may go VG-10/F-12. Yours is nicer than mine.
VG-8 I thought G-6 at first, but I can see some obverse detail and the denticles are pretty much complete.
Any grade is Awesome! The circulation is even and there are no distractions. I was very excited when I got one in change back in the 50's. I still remember the day and how it happened.
If we take the obv VG-10 and the reverse at least VF-15, then the combined grade should come back F-12.
If you discount the area on the obverse at 4k, where the dentils are blending with the rim, it does have stronger dentils everywhere else, so I would agree with you for VG10. But, according to PCGS Photograde, the reverse is spot on VG10. F15 shows much stronger, complete dentils with almost no blending with the rim. This OP Twenty Cent piece is weaker than both F12 and F15. Still, it is a lovely first year coin. Someone buying it would easily pay F12/F15 money to acquire it…imo…Spark
The reverse may be VG 10 for OTHER coins, but this coin is graded on a curve. (While I don't agree, I think all coins should be graded the same.) But some are given preference. Very old coppers, key dates, and this coin is given a little preference because most of them are in terrible condition. That's why I have the reverse at VF-15.
I don't know, but nice coin. Given that this coin worked hard it's entire life, it should get a straight grade and not details. Stuff happens during circulation that doesn't involve cleaning.
