I knew I wasn't the only one who would be enamored with the Trader Bea Purple Core slabs. Its okay, you take the full steppers and I will look for the high grades and varieties. Snagged this undesignated 1944-D/D FS-501 on Great Collections last night. I started my registry set a while back, my 5th war nickel registry set, I call it Lehigh's Bees. Lehigh's Bees Most of the war nickels I see in the Trader Bea Purple is common gem grade stuff, I am really hoping that they up their quality and get some MS67s going.
Nice cherrypick! I can't believe you are already 50% complete on a War Nickel set with a super flashy and niche specialty slab label! Now thats dedication of your series of choice.
This 1953 S graded Ms 66 older pcgs slab, do you believe it would get FS designation? Kind of stupid question, it should be reading up more on step grading criteria , and I'll do that now I think. Its one of the better ones I've found on the bay. I'm quite surprised it got that high of a grade given the weak strikes.im still a noob some series I'm better on some than others,, not really good In any.
I just added these two lovelies, for no reason other than I liked them. I was never big on Barber coinage but I find my opinion is changing. Photo credit: Northeast Numismatics. MS-64 AU-55
This is one of a few things I have gotten on GreatCollections tonight. I think it's really good for the grade, mainly held back from a higher grade because of the nicks on the obverse. Greysheet is $225, and I paid $226.60, which hopefully won't be considered going overboard, seen as how the most recent auction sale for a coin like this was $276 at Heritage on September 9th. It is, though, the most expensive copper coin I've ever bought.
Since @H8_modern was the original author of this megathread, I will post my latest acquisition, which I got from him. It is a 1908 Newfoundland half. A relatively cheap coin. I got it in trade as part of my Trade-Up Game project. 2025 has been a slow year for me as I have not really purchased anything of note since the FUN show in January. I just haven't had the available funds. So it's fun to play with cheapos in the meantime. This coin had a relatively low mintage of 160,000 pieces and is worth about 18 bucks in silver value. @H8_modern indulgently let me have it for a coin worth about half that much.
For quite some time now, my coin purchases have all come from Great Collections. And my camera battery holder broke. The camera still works. The folks at Great Collections take better pics than I anyway. These are the latest two to end up in the mailbox.
I had to edit my above post because I posted the 20 Centavo Great Photo. Here it is. It is a fairly recent purchase also. I didn't get the slab shot I guess.
