This weekend's the last local show of the year. Some random notes: Same weekend as the car show and the GUN show. Parking is nuts. There's a dealer near the front selling cleaned or damaged Morgan and Peace dollars for $32 each, well below spot. This probably isn't my day to dump my own culls. Found a copy of the second edition of Barber Silver Coins, per @KBBPLL's rec in another thread, thanks! Had a chat with one dealer who's buying 1oz AGEs at spot, selling at 1% over. I'm a little tempted both to sell AND to buy, which probably means I shouldn't do either. Here's another dealer with a few rolls and bags of 90% at 33x (melt is currently north of 36x). I was hoping to sell a little at a better price than that; oh, well. ...and that's when I left. The show still runs tomorrow, but barring a change of mind, I don't think I'll go back.
Here at the coin show in Fargo it’s about the same story. I wasn’t in the market to buy or sell any PM’s today, but I eavesdropped on plenty of conversations.
Thanks for the show notes! I read within the last week or so that the place that stopped taking junk silver to melt has restarted buying. However, they are paying a lower number than before relative to spot. It also seems like some dealers are not using the typical kitco spot but other sources, like futures, which are lower (so paying less and using a lower number). This seems to indicate that the lower buy prices from dealers will be around for at least the near future.
Drove down from Richmond for this show with @mrbreeze and another friend. I didn’t take anything to sell but came home with a couple shiny objects. Sorry I didn’t know to say hi.
At $32.00 per silver dollar I would have bought as many as I could, cleaned or not, and depending on the damage of course. I currently sell them in my antique shop for more than $42.00.
