Hello just thought I would start a thread on which sites people like, and which ones people don't . I know some are geared for particular interest like one I like Lincolncentresourse.com, but still maybe name your favorites and why. On the flip side name one you hate and why. This may have been done before, but new sites are being created every day.
I frequent 3 main coin forums: LCR (the one you mentioned); CCF; and CT. I am a Lincoln Cent collector (Wheat Cent Die Varieties) almost exclusively so LCR is a major go-to. CCF has a popular coin photography sub-forum where I spend a lot of time; and increasingly I am spending quality time with the folks here at CT. I occasionally peruse CU and CS, but I find they are not as fulfilling as CT. Lots of folks seem to be moving from those sites to here. So IMO you are in the right place. If you are interested in coin photography, LCR and CCF have specialty sub-forums. If you are interested in varieties or errors, CCF and CT have specialty sub-forums. I recommend doing a broad search, and bookmarking everything you come across that seems of interest. Then go to those sites every day for a week or two, and it will be quickly obvious which sites are active with they types of discussions that interest you. There are also many specialty groups out there that may be of interest. Go to Yahoo Groups or Google Groups pages and search for your interests, and join a few groups. When you join, select to receive daily digests of the posts, and each day you will receive an email with the postings of the previous day. You can reply to anything of interest, or start your own thread. It's a different (older style) of communication and there are many folks who prefer the group/message board style of communication than the newer forum style.
Good idea, but so ya know there's an entire section of the forum dedicated to just that - https://www.cointalk.com/forums/numismatic-resources.33/ And CT members can add new links in the threads already established in that section. But, everybody, understand this. That section of the forum is NOT to be used for purposes of discussion. It is for posting links and only for posting links. Any posts made "discussing" things will be removed.
For me it's CT, CCF and VAMworld although I do not post much on VAMworld. I joined CU a couple of years ago but do not spend any time there. I just don't have enough time at the moment.
I visit this forum and CCF(Chinese Coin Forum) almost daily, Silver Stackers on occasion and the Ike Group, however it is not very active right now nor has been for awhile. CT is the first one that I joined and even though I take a break every once in awhile I end up back here. I guess I need to try some of the others.
CCF is just another TLA. TLA stands for Three Letter Acronym. Dave Waterstraat answered your question correctly I think. I believe you put .org after the coincommunity & your browser will take you there. However, CoinTalk is where all the cool kids hang-out.
I visit Coin News. It will post articles and information on mint sales, mintages, silver & gold prices and a lot of other bits of coin news. I also get a lot of help from some of the comments people post or from their replies to other comments. You can ask questions and they might get answered by other readers, but not always. I like it as I do CT as well. Coin Talk covers everything I need to know and IMO is one of the best. But I still have some problems with CT because it has soo much to it that I haven't yet seen even a fraction of it yet. But I'll get around to navigating it a little at a time. I think the OP was a great idea as well and I'm looking forward to find out what others are visiting.
