Hi CoinTalk! Long time no see!

I was looking through some “cull” and damaged coins at my LCS, which they were selling at melt. I grabbed this one because it looked to me to possibly be a ragged clip. It even might have the Blakesley Effect. Or it’s just been cut off at the top. Let me know what you all think!

    Thanks,

Could be. "Clipped" aren't actually ever clipped. That would be from the ragged edge of a stock sheet. The planchet was cut out from that area.

Can you show a picture of the edge?

I think you are correct that it is a ragged clip, it has a very obvious Blakesley effect.

Very strong Blakesley effect. I had no idea that a clip could be that ragged! Nice find.

A straight clip is from the edge of the roll where planchets are made.
A curved clip is from when the roll didn’t advance correctly and a planchet was cut in the same spot that another planchet was cut from.
A ragged clip is from the beginning or the end of the roll.
All clips are incomplete planchet errors. There is no clip error. Clips are the type of the error.
Yours looks to be a ragged one. Nice find!

Not all clips are from an incomplete planchets. There are real clipped planchets that are called Strike Clips.
