@okbustchaser . I mention you in particular, but I always look at what was going on in the world when any "New" coin comes my way from that year. This one should be of significance to OK,

I'll take a stab at it. Macy's parade and the Teddy Bear.

I think that Oklahoma became a state in 1902.

1902 - Eruption of Mount Pelée in the Caribbean. One of the few people out of 30,000 to survive was a prisoner who only survived because he had been placed in a solitary confinement cell that happened to have no windows, had only a narrow slit in the door that was closed and that slit was facing out to the sea. Not sure of what saved the other two people, but it was an event that was basically 'unsurvivable' for everyone on the island and in the harbor on ships. He was found four days later and was burned because of the heat that still was able to get in his cell.

Oklahoma didn't become a state until 1907, in 1902 the leaders of Indian Territory sought to become their own state, to be named Sequoyah. They held a convention consisting of representatives from the Cherokee, Choctaw, Muskogee (Creek), Chickasaw, and Seminole tribes, known collectively as the Five Civilized Tribes.

@okbustchaser . I thought of you the first second I hit the statehood reference in my book.
Do you also know the year of the big land rush race? I will have to see if I have a coin from that year too. James
