I was looking through a box of old wheat pennies, and this one caught my eye. I know it's an error, but I'm pretty new to coin collecting and don't know what it's worth or what it's called. Thanks in advance for any help. I'm sorry about the pictures, but there is a big blob over the 'e' in liberty and one in the top right corner.
Cool coin. Wheat cents are what got most of us started coin collecting.... Now honestly it is difficult to tell anything from your photo's. But I'll tell you that my first impression is that what you are seeing is glue residue. It was not at all uncommon for folks to glue coins into folders once upon a time. Either way, cool coin!
I'm sorry about the pictures. There is some pink residue on the coin, and it seems to be glue over the e. I wish it were an error.
I agree with glue residue, from what I can see in the pics. Sorry, but no apparent error here. Keep looking!
Hello. Some advice when you are starting in coin collecting. Especially when you think you might have a mint error. Your first concern should be to figure out what you have. Worry about worth or premiums last. Keep this in mind.. just because a coin looks different, weird or strange doesn't automatically make it a mint error. There are plenty of ways coins can be altered or damaged when in circulation. Welcome to CoinTalk
@Odin McNeill - Yes, welcome to the community. You're definitely in the right place to learn. Come enter my monthly giveaway, if you feel like it. PS- hey, cool first name, there!
Looks like another coin was placed on the Lincoln cent and hammered into the 4:00 to 5:00 position with leather over it. The hammered coin shows the reversed date and something that can't happen at the mint.
