I have a friend in Latvia who metal detects battlefields all across Eastern Europe & he just sent me this coin. It's hard to read & I haven't been able to identify it. Any help would be appreciated. I would also appreciate any advice on how to clean it up without causing any more damage.
I'd guess some sort of German or Austrian medal, but I'd be guessing. I'd probably try cleaning it with olive oil and a toothpick which is much like Olive Oyl.
Well, in your upper picture i think i can read "Ausstellung / Memel / 1883". On the other side in the circular edge text i can only read "Deutchem". Now Memel is a city which is now in Lithuenia. But at the time will probably have been in East-Prussia. So i'd say this is a medal of some agricultural ? exhibition held in Memel at the time. These were very often made at the time for all different sort of venues.
