Trying to figure this damaged coin out. It's an 1987D with what appears to be Broad Struck but what is going on with the rim??
    Thanks!!

Could be a - Partial Collar Strike.

A Broadstruck coin would be struck completely out of the retaining collar.

What's puzzling me is both sides have an expanded rim, yet one side says it was contained in the collar. I thought at first maybe some die deterioration, but the devices do not show that at all.
    Which side is which?

Are we sure that's not just somebody's mad scientist experiment?
