Hello again everyone! As I've been rifling through some coins to sell on the bay, I stumbled upon this fancy little cud that I had forgotten about. It's my only shield nickel with a cud, so I'm a little on the fence about parting with it. But I don't think I've shared it here before, so I'm sharing it while I can! For all the strain that these rays put on the dies, one would think that there would be tons of cuds out there. I'm not having much success finding past sales for shields with cuds, but perhaps I'm looking in the wrong places? For identication purposes, Howard's website doesn't show any cuds, and cuds on coins doesn't have this one either. I've found one website that has something very similar to this, but the die cracks don't match up. I'll have to update this from my laptop with scope pictures soon, but for now, here it is!
And the website I was talking about is this one https://flyinclub.org/a-discussion-of-1866-shield-nickel-metal-fatique-cud/ The cud in that main image is very similar to this one but the die cracks don't really jive with it. What are your thoughts on this one?
On your coin or the one in the link? Yours is just missing the "Strike through" and is in terrible shape. Still, nice to have and I would have trouble letting go also. Then again, I did sell a small motto 1864 2 Cent.
Mine shows the die cracks, but the website image doesn't. A small motto 2 cent piece? Very nice! How did it smell? edit: you said sell, not smell. LOL! Nevermind that question.
That’s the first Shield Nickel I’ve seen with a nice Cud. Die cracks yes, but not cuds. Congratulations!
