As far as coins go the last few weeks have been great! First I score a Quietus and then I win a new Gallienus / Lion that is knocking my socks off! It is an upgrade to type I have already (see below) and i like it, but the new one has much better detail and higher relief, especially the reverse. And speaking of the reverse...wait till you see this Kitty kicking around a bulls skull...its...well...I'm a fan! Thats all I'm sayin! Even the bull is smiling BTW, its in an NGC holder at AU. I purchased the coin not the holder. I do plan to take it out but will be leaving it in now. I want to pass it around at the local coin club and like the security of the plastic against falls. I think the pics turned out well through the plastic which can be a challenge. Sweet!!! Very nice for the issue! My only lion, this provincial of Julia Mamaea from Deultum in Thrace:
For my money, both are very nice, but your new one has a really great lion and the added bonus of a bull's head that actually looks like one. Congrats!
VERY NICE !! BTW: Did you already post the Quietus??? I've been after one for quite a while but the cost and circumstances just haven't worked out.
GREAT Gallienus @TJC ! Cool lion. My lions are no where related to your coin. However, I have one from his wife with a Deer Walking... perhaps prey to the Lion! RI Salonina wife of Gallienus 254-268 CE AE Ant 3.61g 20mm Rome mint 267-268 CE crescent Deer Walking delta RIC 15
I also like both coins. I have always wondered what they were thinking when they made the lion so small on the TRP XIII coin after making a more normal size on TRP XII. Mine:
TJC => congrats on scoring that cool OP-Lion ... sadly, I only have this humble Gallienus panther ... man, I really want to bag myself a Lion!! (congrats again on a sweet score)
