masterswimmer A Caretaker, can't take it with me

Supposedly the mint minted five of the last Lincoln cents with an omega privy mark. The mints estimates are $2-$5 million for each at the unscheduled, as of yet, auction they plan to hold.

You can see the date and the privy mark below LIBERTY in the photo below. The genius Treasurer, Brandon Beach, who is the one holding the coin, is not wearing gloves nor holding the coin by its edges. He's now holding a circulated coin with body oils being transferred to the coin. Yeeaaahh, some serious collector will pay multiple millions for that circulated zincoln cent.

The pressed pennies bear a special "Omega" and will not be put in (Matthew Hatcher/Getty Images / Getty Images)"

That’s one cent I can live without. I also don’t need it to complete my Lincoln Collection as it’s just a variety with fingerprints.

You would think he would know enough to wear gloves to protect the coin.

He probably thinks it'll be worth more with a fingerprint to prove a Famous Person once held it.

This reminds me of the person who paid over $500,000 for supposedly the last football the then retired Tom Brady would ever use. Not long after, Brady decided to come out of retirement. Thankfully, it sounds like the sale was eventually nullified, but the situation could have ended differently. Claims of "the final" or "the last" often require a considerable amount of time to hold with certainty.

It's sad what a clown show the mint has become. Apparently he had to get his fingerprints on this "$2-5 million" coin from at least two different angles. And $2-5M? That buys you a pristine 1794 dollar, 1894-S dime, or the only collectable 1652 NE threepence, i.e. a coin with actual significance. 1/100th of that estimate is still too much.

Somehow never made it from his cubicle to the proof department. Only as far as the first press in the manufacturing end. The real question, is the multiple millions these things are going to bring go towards returning what we were bilked out of all those years?

I assume these will be slabbed before they're put up for auction, privatizing even more profit.

I just hope that the one pictured gets slabbed as "MS DETAILS, GROPED BY A DOOFUS".

It's stipulated by law that any and all profits generated by the US Mint go into the US Treasury General Fund.

Now where it goes from there, welllllllllll ...

It should be called the US Treasury General "Slush" Fund. Or the money black hole.:D

    The Half Dime Arrows!

I don't know what's crazier - the fact that this certified MS70 lunatic is holding the "very last" penny with his bare hands, or the fact that the federal government is yet again consigning coins to a private auction service specifically to target the egotistical rich billionaires, which should be a federal crime.

Watch these go for millions, then they decide to make more pennies. No matter who's in what form of office, the Mint will be corrupt for a long time to come.
